3 lakh faculty shortage
August 10th, 2011 - 12:44 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 9 (IANS) The findings of an HRD ministry taskforce Tuesday said the estimated faculty shortage at present in colleges is around three lakh.
“The task force takes note that more than 300,000 is the shortage of faculty in the system at present,” an official statement from the HRD ministry said.
The report, which was made after widespread consultations with several vice-chancellors and other sections of academics, was submitted to HRD Minister Kapil Sibal Tuesday.
The task force also reccomended a scheme to induct young men and women in teaching while they are still pursuing their academics and higher remuneration for the teachers pursuing research with teaching.
The task force’s reccomendations are a part of government’s efforts to overhaul the education system.
