New Delhi, Nov 19 (IANS) Delhi government’s excise department Thursday claimed to have busted a gang that used to sell smuggled foreign liquor through online communities on social networking sites. Three people have been arrested.
The Excise Intelligence Bureau (EIB) received specific information Wednesday that an organised racket of home delivery of whisky was operating in posh areas of south Delhi.
“The foreign liquor racketeers had even formed a ‘Facebook’ community on the internet called ‘Whisky on wheels’ and also on other social networking sites like Naymz and Orkut wherein they provided telephone numbers and email IDs for procuring home delivery orders,” said an official statement here.
“Surveillance was mounted and a joint raid with Delhi Police was conducted at Vasant Vihar, Sainik Farms and Saket resulting in the arrest of three persons - Manoj Gupta, Ravinder Singh and Vincent Nathan,” the statement added.
The EIB seized 294 bottles of different brands of foreign liquor and three cars. It has also seized 400 cans of foreign beer of various brands.
