2G: Delhi High Court notice to CBI on Chandra’s plea
January 9th, 2012 - 1:39 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 9 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Monday issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on a plea of Unitech managing director Sanjay Chandra for quashing charges framed against him by the federal investigative agency in the 2G spectrum case.
Justice M.L. Mehta asked the CBI to file its response by March 13. Chandra approached the court Jan 6.
“The impugned order has been passed in a casual and perfunctory manner and without due application of judicial mind,” his petition stated.
“There was no evidence to show that the petitioner (Chandra) had in any manner conspired with any public servant to cause wrongful gain to himself or wrongful loss to the government of India,” it added.
Chandra, who is currently out on bail, was April 2 formally charged by the investigative agency along with former communications minister A. Raja’s then personal secretary R.K. Chandolia, former telecom secretary Siddhartha Behura and Swan Telecom’s Shahid Usman Balwa and Vinod Goenka.
Chandra was granted bail by the Supreme Court Nov 23.
Meanwhile, the high court listed for Jan 13 the plea of three officials of the Reliance Group - Gautam Doshi, Surendra Pipara and Hari Nair - who too moved it to quash charges against them in the 2G case.
