New Delhi, Jan 20 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Friday issued notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on former telecom secretary Siddharth Behura’s plea for quashing the charges against him in the 2G case.

The court issued notice after Behura approached it challenging the framing of charges against him by a special CBI court.

Justice M.L. Mehta said: “Issue notice to CBI for March 13.”

He added that he has kept similar petitions of other accused in the case for hearing on March 12 and 13.

Behura’s counsel Aman Lekhi stated in the application that there was no substantive allegation against him.

Special CBI Judge O.P. Saini had on Oct 22 last year framed charges against the 17 accused for offences of conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, cheating, forgery and abuse of official position under the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act. If held guilty, they could be awarded life term as maximum sentence.

Nineteen individuals and six companies are accused in the case. The presumptive loss to the government in the allotment of 2G spectrum is estimated Rs.1.76 lakh crore.

Except for former telecom minister A. Raja and Behura, all other arrested accused have been released on bail.
