29 injured as train derails in Pakistan (Lead)
September 10th, 2011 - 2:03 pm ICT by IANSIslamabad, Sep 10 (IANS) At least 29 people were injured when a passenger train derailed Saturday in eastern Pakistan, Xinhua reported.
The accident occurred around 5.00 a.m. at Sara-e-Alamgir village in Punjab province’s Gujrat district, the local Urdu channel Duniya TV reported.
The train was travelling from Lahore to Rawalpindi.
Five compartments derailed because the track was filled with mud brought on by the rain, railway officials said.
Some of the injured were shifted to hospitals in Rawalpindi and Gujrat. None of them was in critical condition.
At least 120 people were killed in Punjab and Sindh provinces in incidents caused by heavy rains in August.
