Baghdad, Nov 10 (Xinhua) At least 28 people were killed and 70 injured Monday in a series of coordinated blasts in quick succession in the Iraqi capital, an interior ministry source said. The incidents which occurred at about 8:00 a.m. (0500 GMT) started when two booby-trapped cars 500 meters apart went off one after the other at a popular marketplace in northern Baghdad’s Sunni-dominated Adhamiyah locality, the source said on condition of anonymity.

The car blasts were quickly followed by a roadside bomb and only seconds after a suicide bomber detonated his explosive vest.

It was apparent that the blasts were coordinated to inflict maximum casualty and damage, the source said.

Among the wounded were five women, four policemen and a soldier, he said.

The powerful blasts also set 15 cars sitting on the tarmac ablaze and damaged ten nearby shops and several stalls, he said.

Iraqi security forces immediately sealed off the main roads leading to the scene while ambulances and civilian cars were seen evacuating the victims to nearby hospitals.
