26/11 martyr’s daughter finally gets government job

P. Chidambaram Mumbai, July 21 (IANS) Nearly two-and-half years after police officer Vijay Salaskar lost his life battling terrorists during the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attack, his daughter has been given a government job, as promised to her, according to a statement issued here Thursday.

Divya Salaskar has been appointed as assistant commissioner of sales tax department of the Maharashtra government.

In a signed statement, union Home Minister P. Chidambaram said that during the course of a TV interview, Divya had brought to his notice that her appointment to a promised suitable government job had been hanging fire for quite some time.

“I promised her that I would take up the matter with the chief minister and would request him to persuade the Maharashtra Public Service Commission to expedite the case,” Chidambaram said.

Thursday morning, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan conveyed to Chidambaram that Divya Salaskar’s appointment has been approved, he said.
