25 kg bomb recovered in Chhattisgarh
June 14th, 2011 - 11:16 pm ICT by IANSRaipur, June 14 (IANS) Police in Chhattisgarh Tuesday recovered a 25 kg bomb kept under a culvert to target a police convoy scheduled to pass over it later in the day, a senior officer said.
The recovery was made from a forested area of Kanker district in restive Bastar region, some 200 km south of Raipur.
Officials at police headquarters here said that a police search squad detected the bomb in a Maoist dominated tribal area and defused it immediately. The bomb was to target a convoy of police vehicle scheduled to cross the bridge in the evening.
Maoists have put Chhattisgarh under a string of deadly attacks for past one week that have claimed lives of 18 policemen in Bastar region.
