The child labourers - aged between 10-13 years - were rescued from the brick kiln in Adilpur village in a joint operation of the police and district officials.
“Acting on information of an NGO, we raided the brick kiln and freed the children. While the owner of the kiln and other staff managed to escape, the co-owner was arrested,” police inspector Anil Kumar told reporters in Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Nagar, some 150 km from Lucknow.
He said most of the bonded labourers are from the Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh.
According to police, the bonded labourers are at present with the NGO that works for child rights. They were brought from Chhattisgarh on the pretext of providing education with part-time, good-income jobs.
