210 SIM cards on fake identity seized, four booked
September 2nd, 2010 - 3:36 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Sep 2 (IANS) As many as 210 SIM cards issued against fake identities were seized and four people were booked Thursday in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district, along the Indo-Nepal border, police said.
A Special Operations Group of the Uttar Pradesh police seized the SIM cards issued by a Airtel franchisee shop in Bahraich, about 120 km from here. The police did not rule out the possibility of use of these SIM cards for anti-national activities.
“Since Bahraich shares a long border with that part of Nepal which is infested by ISI agents, there was every possibility that these SIM cards were used for anti-India activities,” Barhaich district Superintendent of Police Ram Bharose said.
“Besides 210 pre-activated SIM cards of Airtel, we have seized fake stamp-paper, 80 application forms for new mobile connections with fake identities, a computer, pen drives, together with Rs.26,000 in cash,” he said.
Four people identified as Fareed, Gaus Mohamad, Narendra Yadav and Amar Singh were booked. Adarsh, the owner of the franchisee firm, was stated to be on the run.
