2010: Highlights of India-China ties (To go with ‘Year of taming China dragon’)

The following are the high points in India-China relations during 2010:April 5-8: External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna visits China, kicks off Year of India in China.
April 16: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh meets Chinese President Hu Jintao on the sidelines of the BRIC summit in Brasilia, Brazil.
May 26-31: President Pratiba Patil visits China, seeks support for India’s candidature for a permanent seat in UN Security Council. In July, China denies visa to Lt.General B.S. Jamwal, forcing New Delhi to suspend defence exchanges.
July 3-5: National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon visits China as the prime minister’s special envoy to expand scope of India-China dialogue.
Aug 11: Manmohan Singh hosts the Dalai Lama at his residence.
Oct 29: Manmohan Singh meets Chinese Premier Wen in Hanoi.
Nov 15: S.M. Krishna meets his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi in Wuhan, makes it clear that Kashmir is to India what Tibet and Taiwan are to China.
Nov 16: India, China hold strategic dialogue.
Nov 29-30: Special Representatives of India, China hold 14th round of boundary talks in Beijing.
Dec 15-17: Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao visits India. India, China sign six agreements, set $100 billion trade target by 2015.
