New Delhi, Jan 13 (IANS) Delhi would host the greenest games in the world in 2010 (Commonwealth Games), Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Tuesday said. “The Thyagraj Stadium and Shivaji Stadium, which are being reconstructed, would be developed as green buildings,” she said while interacting with members of the Green Council at Delhi Secretariat.

Former United Nations under secretary general and author Shashi Tharoor, heads the council.

The chief minister emphasized the need of integrating green concepts while upgrading the existing infrastructure, and added that the ensuing Commonwealth Games would help in ecological transformation of the city.

The success of the Commonwealth Games would become the benchmark for large global multi-disciplinary games for the future, she said.

“The government would strive to enhance bio-diversity through innovative landscaping and reduction in soil toxicity, ensure energy security through green energy and efficiency, have an effective water management to optimise consumption and effective waste management. It would also reduce, measure and monitor air and noise levels,” Dikshit said.

An official said a proposal to make use of wind power from Rajasthan during the Commonwealth Games was also discussed.
