New Delhi, May 6 (IANS) A 20-year-old student of Information Technology (IT) was stabbed to death near his south Delhi residence, police said Friday.

Shobit Modi, a second year student at Manav Rachna University in Faridabad, was stabbed near C-block in Vasant Kunj around 10 p.m. Thursday. He was taken to Fortis Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

According to a senior police official, a security guard first saw Shobit lying on the ground and thought the youth was drunk.

“It was raining and there was no power there. Shobit’s i-phone rang and the guard picked it,” the official said.

The guard informed the caller, a girl, about Shobit lying at the gate, who then informed Shobit’s parents.

“Shobit’s father Suraj Modi immediately rushed along with his elder son Rohit and took the bleeding youth to Fortis Hospital where he was declared brought dead,” the officer added.

“We have found four stab marks on the victim’s stomach. This does not seem to be a case of robbery, as we found his i-phone, a costly wristwatch and purse with money near the body,” said the officer.

The police have found that Shobit had left the house around 4.30 p.m. for DLF Promenade and was there with his five friends till 9 p.m.

The closed-circuit television footages from the mall showed him with a girl around 9 p.m. after which Shobit called his mother to inform her that he was coming home in 20 minutes, the officer said.

“He had four stab wounds, one on the chest, one in the abdomen and two in the back,” the officer added.

Suraj Modi is a general manager in the Mines and Minerals Trading Corporation (MMTC).
