20 killed, many critically injured in Jharkhand road mishap
September 19th, 2011 - 3:20 pm ICT by IANSRanchi, Sep 19 (IANS) Twenty people were killed and 22 injured in a collision between a bus and an iron rod-laden trailer truck on the outskirts of Ranchi before dawn Monday, police said.
Casualties were high as the iron rods speared through the bus, which had 55 people on board, at Bundu on the 130-km stretch between Jharkhand capital Ranchi and the steel city of Jamshedpur, police said.
Fifteen people died on the spot and five succumbed to injuries later in hospital. The injured have been admitted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi. The condition of 17 is said to be serious.
The bus was going to Ara district of Bihar from Jamshedpur when it collided with the trailer truck on a serpentine road.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda, who has announced a compensation of Rs.2 lakh to the family of each dead, air-dashed to Ranchi from Kolkata Monday morning and went directly to RIMS.
