20 killed in Nigerian village attacks
July 8th, 2012 - 2:43 am ICT by IANSAbuja, July 8 (IANS) At least 20 people have been killed and many others seriously injured in attacks on villagers in Nigeria’s Plateau State, said a top government official.
A total of 20 people were killed Friday night in Barkinladi local government area by some unidentified gunmen who invaded nine villages of the locality in Gashik district, Xinhua quoted Gyang Fulani, majority leader of the State Assembly as saying.
The lawmaker said the casualties might increase, as many people had been hospitalised following the attack.
The casualties might be high, as the attackers’ numbering about 100 were reportedly using dangerous weapons during the mayhem, said Captain Salisu Mustapha, spokesperson for the Special Task-force (STF).
