20 kg heroin seized near Amritsar
February 20th, 2010 - 9:50 pm ICT by IANSAmritsar, Feb 20 (IANS) Nearly 20 kg of heroin, estimated to be worth Rs.100 crore in the international market, was seized Saturday from a mini truck near here by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), officials said.
Following a tip-off that a big consignment of drugs was being brought from the border area of Amritsar district for delivery, the DRI officials signalled the mini-truck to stop on the Ajnala road.
However, the driver sped away. The DRI officials gave chase but he abandoned the truck near a village and escaped.
On checking the truck, the DRI officials found a packet containing 20 kg heroin from under the driver’s seat.
The DRI and police are trying to nab the person who brought the consignment in the truck.
