20 injured in Orissa clash
March 17th, 2011 - 11:10 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, March 17 (IANS) At least 20 people were injured Thursday when hundreds of villagers clashed with policemen near this Orissa capital protesting laxity in the probe of a youth’s murder six days ago.
Demanding the arrest of the culprits in the alleged murder of Manas Mohapatra, a realtor, near Andharua village March 11, the residents of the area ransacked the nearby police station at Chandaka.
The villagers also clashed with police and pelted stones.
“Police resorted to ‘lathi’ (cane) charge on the villagers after the situation went out of control,” Inspector U.K. Das told IANS.
He said at least 10 policemen also suffered injuries in the scuffle. At least 35 villagers have been arrested for attacking the police, he added.
