2 teenagers drown in Punjab village pond
June 1st, 2011 - 1:36 pm ICT by IANSKharar (Punjab), June 1 (IANS) Two teenagers drowned in a village pond here late Tuesday while trying to swim, police said Wednesday.
The boys were identified as Gurdeep Singh, 16, and Charanjit Singh, 17, both residents of Batta village near this Punjab town, around 15 km from the state capital Chandigarh, they said.
“They had gone to attend a village fair when this incident happened. They were trying to swim in a village pond and Charanjit was the first to dive into it. But when he did not resurface, Gurdeep also dived in to search for him but he also failed to resurface,” said Anil Kumar, investigation officer of the case.
He added, “The boys were first taken to a private hospital but from there they were referred to a civil hospital. However, civil hospital doctors declared them brought dead.”
