April 3rd, 2011 - 9:59 pm ICT by IANSGhaziabad, April 3 (IANS) Celebrations after India’s cricket World Cup victory turned sour in the Maliwara area of Ghaziabad when two people, including a woman, were seriously injured in firing by a reveller, police said Sunday.
The victims, Meera (47) and Amit alias Govind (19) are being treated in the Shyam Lal Panna Lal Hospital.
Police arrested Sunil Tyagi and seized his double-barrelled gun, city police Superintendent J.K. Shahi said.
According to police, as hundreds of people sang and danced in celebration and fireworks lit the sky Saturday night, a group of people, apparently drunk, went out of control.
Some of them were armed with pistols and were flashing them openly. Tyagi took out his double barrel gun and fired into the air. The splinters hit Meera and Amit.
They collapsed immediately and were rushed to Shyam Lal Panna Lal hospital, police said.
