2 cops accused of assaulting lady officer surrender
September 24th, 2010 - 9:18 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Sep 24 (IANS) Two traffic constables, who roughed up a woman police officer Sep 2 after she caught them extorting money from truck drivers in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district, surrendered before a court in Bareilly Friday, police said. However, a third constable was absconding.
Ravindra and Manoj, who were absconding since Sep 2 after assaulting Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Kalpana Saxena, surrendered in the Bareilly District Court.
“The two have been sent to 14-day judicial custody,” police inspector Dharmendra Singh told reporters in Bareilly, some 200 km from Lucknow.
The three constables are already under suspension. They assaulted Saxena after she caught them extorting money from truck drivers and dragged her for around a kilometre-and-a-half while fleeing in their car in Bareilly.
