17,000 poultry culled in Bangladesh
April 14th, 2011 - 12:36 am ICT by IANSDhaka, April 13 (IANS) Over 17,000 birds have been culled in a Bangladesh village after samples of dead chickens were found to be infected with the bird flu virus, an official said Wednesday.
A total of 17,279 birds were culled and 4,298 eggs destroyed at Gajaria in Sreepur sub-district, livestock officer A.K.M. Ataur Rahman told bdnews24.
The culling operation at the Ferdous Poultry Farm began Wednesday morning after the samples were found to be H5N1-positive in a lab test Tuesday.
On March 22, about 28,500 bird flu-infected poultry of another poultry farm were culled and over 48,000 eggs destroyed in the sub-district.
