17 killed in Pakistan road accident

Islamabad, Feb 21 (DPA) At least 17 people on their way to attend a funeral were killed Thursday when their bus collided with a mini-van in eastern Pakistan, officials said. The victims, 13 women and two children among them, were travelling in the eastern province of Punjab, officials said.

More than a dozen people were also injured in the accident, which occurred near Jhang, some 135 km from the provincial capital Lahore, said Kher Mohammed, an official at the local hospital.

Mohammed said the toll could rise as three of the survivors were in critical condition.
