16 killed in China bus accident
October 2nd, 2011 - 4:13 am ICT by IANSBeijing, Oct 2 (IANS) At least 16 people were killed and 17 injured in central China after a bus with 34 passengers on board crashed into a ravine in a mountainous county Saturday, Xinhua reported.
According to authorities, the accident occurred in Hubei province in the afternoon and one person was still missing.
The sleeper coach plunged into the river dozens of metres below the highway in Xiangshan county of Yichang city.
Fourteen people died on the spot while two more died later at the hospital.
The crash injured 17 passengers of the bus, most of them severely, according to the Renmin Hospital in Xingshan, where they were receiving medical treatment.
