15 Taliban militants killed in Afghanistan

Kabul, Dec 31 (IANS) At least 15 suspected Taliban militants have been killed and 55 arrested in a countrywide crackdown in Afghanistan by police, army and NATO forces, the government said Saturday.
The Afghan National Police, Afghan National Army and international coalition forces launched 18 joint operations in Kunar, Nangarhar, Kapisa, Takhar, Baghlan, Kandahar, Helmand, Wardak, Logar, Ghazni, Khost and Herat provinces, Xinhua reported citing an interior ministry statement.
The forces also confiscated 12 AK-47 rifles, five rocket launchers, three machine guns, five anti-vehicle mines, 1,280 kg opium, 164 kg hashish, four kg heroin, three radio handsets, five motorbikes and other ammunition.
The Taliban were yet to make any comment.
