GovindaCoimbatore, Feb 22 (IANS) Fifteen people, including eight prison guards, were injured when inmates of the central prison here clashed with jail officials Sunday, an official said.
Three injured guards - N. Balasubramani, 30, Subramanian, 28, and Senthil Kumar, 30 - have been hospitalised and are said to be out of danger. The others were treated as out-patients, prison superintendent S. Govindaraj said.

“The trouble started after the screening of Rajnikant starrer ‘Sivaji the Boss’ for over 1,500 inmates. The prisoners were irked at being prodded by the guards to rush back to their cells and that led to an altercation,” an official said.

The inmates attacked the prison guards with sticks and iron rods. Eight guards and seven prisoners were hurt in the altercation, jail sources said.

An inquiry is being conducted by Govindaraj, official sources said.
