14 rescued from Mumbai building fire (Lead)
August 9th, 2012 - 10:33 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, Aug 9 (IANS) Fourteen people were rescued from a building here after a fire engulfed the ninth floor of a commercial complex Thursday, officials said.
The trapped ppeople were working in different offices in the multi-storeyed Express Building at Tardeo in south Mumbai. It houses many advertising companies, publicity and media firms.
The fire was noticed around 5.30 p.m. from the ninth floor of the building situated in a crowded locality, according to the city disaster control centre.
After battling it for nearly three hours, the fire fighters brought the blaze under control. The cause of the fire was not yet clear, officials said.
Soon after the fire broke out, at least five people trapped on the ninth floor of the building were rescued, followed by the remaining nine later.
The building is situated near the Tardeo bus depot and evening peak-hour traffic was disrupted due to diversions caused by the fire.
