Dimapur (Nagaland), Jan 5 (IANS) Fourteen people, including five women, were killed in two separate road accidents in Nagaland Thursday, police said.

In the first incident, 10 people, including four women, were killed and 32 others injured when a bus they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge in Dimapur district.

The accident took place between Piphema-Pherima village on National Highway 29, about 44 km from state capital Kohima, said Dimapur police chief Z. Mero.

“A total of 32 people were rescued from the gorge and were admitted in hospitals in Dimapur,” he said.

The inter-state bus was ferrying passengers from Imphal to Shillong.

“We are yet to determine the cause of the accident and investigation is on,” Mero said.

According to some of the injured passengers, who were brought to Dimapur district hospital, the driver shouted that the bus’ brakes had failed and the next moment, it rolled down the gorge.

In another road accident, four people including a woman, were killed when a speeding truck rammed over an auto-rickshaw on the outskirts of Dimapur, Mero said.
