13 tourists rescued from stuck Shimla lift
June 29th, 2011 - 12:12 am ICT by IANSShimla, June 28 (IANS) Thirteen tourists, mostly belonging to Delhi, had a harrowing experience when they were stuck in a lift for around two hours in this Himachal Pradesh capital Tuesday before being rescued, police said.
The incident took place in the evening when the tourists boarded a lift to reach Shimla’s famous Mall Road, a favourite haunt of strollers.
“All the tourists have been rescued and they are fine,” Superintendent of Police Sonal Agnihotri told reporters.
The stranded tourists included two children and four women.
It seems that the lift was overloaded, another police official added. He said the trapped people were rescued around 9 p.m.
Hundreds of people, mainly the tourists, daily use the two lifts, being run by the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, to travel to and fro between the Mall Road and the Cart Road.
