13 held for vehicle thefts in Delhi

New Delhi, Jan 24 (IANS) A total of 13 people have been arrested over the past few days for cases of vehicle thefts and 21 stolen vehicles have been recovered from them, Delhi Police said Monday.In the first incident, Zia-ur-Rehman, 22, Rahimuddin, 22, and Imtiaz Khan Sheikh, 23, all residents of Thoubal district in Manipur, were apprehended with four stolen motorcycles.

“We got an a tip-off from Ambedkar Nagar Jan 19 that they were to dispose of the vehicles to someone. We laid a trap and apprehended them. After stealing the bikes, they used to dispose them off to various receivers in cities of the northeast,” a senior police official said.

Two people, including one who turned to crime to fund his expenses on two girl friends, were arrested from Sitapuri in south Delhi Sunday. They have been identified as Surender Singh Bisht, 25, and Madan Bahadur, 23.

Vipin, allegedly involved in 15 cases of burglary, theft and vehicle theft in Najafgarh and Chhawla areas of west Delhi, was arrested from Nawada Sunday.

Police also smashed two gangs of vehicle thieves in north Delhi and arrested seven people.
