12 kg heroin seized in Amritsar, 3 arrested
August 29th, 2011 - 11:02 pm ICT by IANSAmritsar, Aug 29 (IANS) Three people were arrested and 12 kg heroin, brought over from Pakistan, seized from their possession in this Sikh holy city, police said.
The heroin, police officials said, was worth millions of rupees in the international market.
According to Additional Inspector General of Police Kausthub Sharma, police stopped three people on the Kot Meet Singh road on the outskirts of Amritsar city, 250 km from Chandigarh, following a tip-off.
Sharma said the heroin consignment was being sent by these people to Delhi after a deal. The links of these three people, all Amritsar residents, to Indian and Pakistan-based cross border smugglers is being investigated by police.
The international border between India and Pakistan is only 30 km from the city.
