12 Bangladeshis held in Tripura
September 14th, 2011 - 5:15 pm ICT by IANSAgartala, Sep 14 (IANS) In the second such incident this month, 12 Bangladeshi nationals, including three women and four children, were arrested Wednesday for unlawfully entering India, police said.
“MTF (Mobile Task Force) troopers arrested them here and presented them at a local court, which sent them to jail,” police spokesman Nepal Das told reporters.
He said that the foreign nationals were detained under the Indian Passports Act and will be sent back to Bangladesh after completion of their 14-day jail term.
The intruders, who might have crossed the border looking for jobs, are residents of Feni, Comilla and Sylhet districts of Bangladesh, adjoining Tripura.
Earlier this month, MTF personnel detained 14 Bangladeshi nationals, including three women and two children, and deported them back to their country.
Since last year, the Tripura Police have also detained 23 Myanmarese nationals in the state.
Tripura shares an 856-km-long border with Bangladesh, manned by the Border Security Force (BSF). Dense forests in large parts make the border porous and vulnerable to illegal cross-border movement.
