12 arrested after communal clash
March 20th, 2011 - 10:56 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, March 20 (IANS) Twelve people were arrested in Itaunja town, on the outskirts of this Uttar Pradesh capital, which remained tense Sunday evening following a “minor clash” between members of two communities, police said.
The clash started following some arguments between the members of the two communities. Police denied any link between Holi celebrations and the incident.
“After a verbal duel, members from both the sides resorted to stone-pelting and even torched two small shops. It all happened within 15-20 minutes. It was a minor clash,” police inspector S.K. Pandey told reporters here.
“No one has been seriously injured in the incident,” he added.
He said investigations were on to find out the reason behind the clash.
According to police, 12 people from both the sides have been arrested for violence and arson.
“Security has been beefed up. The situation is completely under control,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Alok Kumar told reporters.
