11 killed in China coal mine gas blast

Xi’an (China), OCt 16 (IANS) Eleven people were killed in a gas blast at a coal mine in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, local authorities said.
Altogether 21 miners were working underground when the blast happened around 11:30 a.m. at the Tianyu Coal Mine in Tongchuan City, and 10 managed to escape, a spokesman with the city government said, reported Xinhua.
Local authorities are investigating the cause of the blast, he said.
