May 27th, 2011 - 12:40 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 26 (IANS) Eleven children working as labourers were rescued from a slaughter house in east Delhi Thursday, an official said.
The children aged between 12-17 years were found working in the slaughter house run by a private contractor in the Ghazipur area, said Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Preet Vihar) Hukum Chand.
The children were rescued after an NGO Childline informed police about their presence in the slaughter house as labourers.
“We got the information today (Thursday) and started working on it. A team was prepared which laid a trap and the children were rescued,” he said, adding two arrests have been made.
“We have arrested two private contractors,” he said.
The victims, meanwhile, have been sent to a child home in east delhi’s Alipur area.
The children hailed from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Assam and Bengal, officials said.
