January 29th, 2010 - 8:29 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 29 (IANS) The Commonwealth Games needs nearly 10,000 volunteers from schools for its gala opening ceremony here in October, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said Friday.
“Nearly 10,000 students will take part in the opening and closing ceremony. The responsibility to identify the volunteers has been given to us by (CWG Organizing Committee Chairman Suresh) Kalmadiji,” Dikshit said at the Ludlow Castle Wrestling training venue for the Games.
“Our education department has started the process of identifying such students. Students of Class 11 and 12 can become volunteers for the Games,” she said.
The Commonwealth Games will be held Oct 3-14.
“Opening ceremonies are very important for such events. They showcase the culture of a country. People still talk about the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games,” Dikshit said.
