100 new dengue cases in Orissa
August 22nd, 2011 - 10:47 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, Aug 22 (IANS) At least 100 people tested positive for dengue Monday in Orissa, taking the total affected by the virus in the state this month to 637, officials said.
The death toll due to the outbreak has, however, remained at 19 with no new death reported from any part of the state since Sunday, a senior official of the state health department told IANS.
“Today (Monday), 216 samples were tested in Sriram Chandra Bhanj Medical College (SCB) and Hospital at Cuttack and 100 of them were found positive,” he said.
More then half of the patients who tested positive Monday belonged to Angul district which has been worst hit by the mosquito-borne virus, he said.
Dengue cases have been reported from 21 of Orissa’s 30 districts. The highest, 314, were from Angul.
