10 killed as boat capsizes in Uttar Pradesh river (Lead)

Lucknow, Aug 6 (IANS) At least 10 people were drowned and four were missing after a boat capsized in the Saryu river in Uttar Pradesh Wednesday, the police said. Five people managed to swim to the river bank. “We have managed to save six people during the rescue operation,” said a police official from Bahraich district, over 270 km from here.

“The accident took place when the people from Gangapur village were going to the Barahi village in Baharaich,” District Superintendent of Police Piyush Modak told IANS by phone.

The accident took place around 7 p.m. near the Barvi bank of the river, he added.
