Gurdaspur (Punjab), March 11 (IANS) At least 10 people were killed and 35 injured when a rashly driven private bus spun out of control and smashed against some trees before overturning in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district Tuesday evening. Most of the victims died on the spot, police officials said. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals in Dhariwal and other places.
The injured passengers told the police that the bus, going from Pathankot to Amritsar, was being driven very rashly by the driver. The driver lost control at a curve and the bus hit a few eucalyptus trees head-on before over turning.
The driver of the bus, Surjit Singh, was among the dead. The bus was completely damaged.
Police officials said that the bus belonged to a transport company run by a sitting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator from Gurdaspur district.
