10 feared killed in Thai army helicopter crash

Bangkok, June 20 (Xinhua) All 10 people on board an army helicopter were feared killed when the aircraft crashed in Thailand’s Yala province in far south Friday, The Nation website reported. The crash happened in the restive Bannang Sata district where government troops are engaged in fighting with the separatists.

The website quoted army sources as saying that 10 people were on board the aircraft.

The cause of Friday’s crash was not known.

Insurgency-related violence in the three southernmost provinces — Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat, has killed over 3,000 people since early 2004.
