10 children hurt as tempo hits school van
November 22nd, 2010 - 12:58 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Nov 22 (IANS) At least 10 school students were injured, three of them seriously, when the van they were travelling in overturned after being hit by a speeding tempo in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district Monday, police said.
The accident took place in the Kotwali area, where the tempo collided with the van of the Vidya Bhawan Public School.
“All the injured students are being treated at hospital. Of the 10 children, three have received serious injuries,” police inspector Raja Singh told reporters in Bareilly, some 250 km from Lucknow.
Police said all the injured students were in the 8-11 years age group.
“According to witnesses, the driver of the tempo lost control over the vehicle after which it rammed into the school van that overturned,” Singh said.
Police are yet to nab the tempo driver who escaped after the accident.
