10 arrested for stealing, buying six tonnes of copper
March 3rd, 2011 - 1:01 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 2 (IANS) Five people were arrested for robbing a truck carrying six tonnes of copper and five others were held for purchasing the stolen property, police said Wednesday.
Dinesh, 27, Sandeep, 28, Mukesh Yadav, 25, Vikram, 21, Rohit Sharma, 21, hijacked a truck carrying copper in Faridabad in Haryana on the night of Feb 27-28 at gunpoint and abandoned it after looting it, a police official said.
Satpal Singh, 52, Vipin Uppal, 37, Ankur Suri, 32, Rajpal Chauhan, 40, and Vikram Bansal, 36, were arrested for buying the stolen copper, police said.
“After looting the truck, the copper was sold to Singh, Uppal and Suri for Rs.10 lakh. They then sold it to Bansal through Rajpal Chauhan for Rs.21 lakh and earned Rs.3.6 lakh each. The market value of the stolen copper is around Rs.30 lakh,” a police oficer said.
The 10 accused were arrested Tuesday evening in Sarai Kale Khan area of east Delhi on a tip off, added the official.
