Yala province is ramping up security following warnings that southern insurgents may be planning a massive operation throughout August.
Military and police units in Yala province are increasing security following a bombing of a military patrol in Ra-ngae (ระแงะ) district of Narathiwat province earlier this morning. Protection units assigned to local academic personnel are being especially vigilant due to expectations that insurgent groups will be mounting a massive offensive throughout the month of August, on the occasion of the groups’ anniversary.
Local officials report that security forces are not underestimating insurgents and are ready to immediately respond to attacks of any kind.
