UK affirms no intention to extend visa for Mr Thaksin
November 11th, 2008 - 2:21 pm ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi
- Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs David Miliband affirms that the United Kingdom has no intention of reinstating the visa of former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his wife Khunying Potjaman.
Mr. Miliband stated that the decision to revoke the visa was made by Home Secretary Jacqui Smith who deemed Mr. Thaksin’s verdict in the Ratchadaphisek land scandal case as grounds to deny him re-entry into the UK.
Meanwhile, the deposed PM has spoken to Reuters, indicating that he has left China to an undisclosed country, affirming that it is not Manila in the Philippines. He remarked that he may conduct another phone-in to his supporters in Thailand.
