Mr. Thanong Bidaya, former finance minister, refused to join Somchai Wongsawat administration, suggesting that caretaker finance minister and deputy PM Dr. Surapon Suebwonglee is suitable to take up the job.

Mr. Thanong said that so far, he was not approached yet to take up the finance portfolio. He added that if approached, he would refuse to take up the job as requested by his family.

The former finance minister said that the two-year prohibition him from taking up financial job, according to Bank of Thailand’s rule, has just completed. “I’ve been jobless for two years. I have had to use my savings to earn living (during the past two years). So, I think it’s time for me to resume working again, but not in politics”, he said.

Mr. Thanong took up several private jobs in the past, including a former president of TMB Bank and an investment advisor.
