Thai steer exporting business earns over 17 million baht
July 15th, 2008 - 9:18 am ICT by Amrit RashmisrisethiThe Livestock Department reports that steer exporting business earns more than 17 million baht of income so far this year. The Director-General of the Livestock Department, Dr. Sakchai Sriboonsue (ศักดิ์ชัย ศรีบุญซื่อ), says the figure was from October 1st, 2007 to July 14th, 2008.
Mr. Sakchai says around 15,103 living steers worth 17,420,582 baht were exported to neighboring countries, including Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia. However, he says the beef prices in Thailand look likely to soar as most of the beef sold in Thailand are imported from neighboring countries.
Mr. Sakchai says his department will try to add more local markets to tackle the problem. He says relevant agencies have cooperated well with the authority in an effort to protect the benefits of Thai farmers.
