Bangkok, Dec 16 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Transsexuals and transgenders are called “katoeys” or “ladyboys” in Thailand. The country seems to have gotten used to the group because almost every cosmetic shop has a ladyboy attendant. Nonetheless, the community seeks more acceptance in the country and a recent breakthrough for them has gotten them smiling.

A new airline company in Thailand is giving the community the opportunity by hiring transgenders and transsexuals jobs as flight attendance. PC Air has hired several transsexuals and transgenders to be on board their planes.

One of the newly hired flight attendants is 22-year-old Tanyarat Jirapatpakorn. His maiden flight was from the Thai capital to the southern city of Surat Thani on Thursday.

After the experience, he told the Reuters news agency that, “This is the beginning of the acceptance of transsexuals in Thailand, giving the opportunity for us to work in various fields. Maybe in the future we can get any job that transsexuals never did before, such as police, soldiers or even pilots.”

PC Air is owned by Peter Chan. His name forms the initials of the company. He explained that they decided to give the transsexual community the opportunity after they received more applications from them.
