Thai Deputy PM says no intelligence about possible subway bomb plot
August 30th, 2010 - 4:35 pm ICT by BNO NewsBANGKOK (BNO NEWS) — Thai Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban on Monday dismissed rumors that groups were planning to bomb the Bangkok subway system in the next one or two months, local media reported.
The Bangkok Post reported that Suthep said no intelligence agencies have informed him about such a threat, accusing the opposition Puea Thai Party of circulating false rumors which would possibly benefit them.
Suthep said he ordered officials to increase security in the Thai capital, including the repair of CCTV cameras which were damaged during recent anti-government protests.
Puea Thai Party spokesman Prompong Nopparit recently said some groups were planning to create unrest as an excuse for a military coup, but Suthep said ‘no soldiers were thinking about such a coup,’ the Bangkok Post reported.
