Sukhothai confident to effectively deal with flooding this yearJuly 26th, 2008 - 9:51 am ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi
The water level of Yom River has been reportedly increasing but the governor of Sukhothai says he is confident that the province can tackle flooding during this period and requests people to closely monitor the water situation.
Sukhothai Governor Wanchai Suthin affirms the river can store a lot more water. He also says the province does not release water from the river as people need water for agriculture. However, he says the province will release water from the river if there is higher rainfall to prevent inundation.
Mr Wanchai says the province systematically manage water and continuously calls a meeting to consider the water situation.
The governor also calls on people to keep abreast of the water situation and weather forecasts, especially during the middle of this month. He says he has instructed all units to warn people in time if flooding occurs.
