Si Sa Ket orders press and public to retreat from observation points at Thai-Cambodian borderOctober 16th, 2008 - 1:16 pm ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi
Deputy Governor of Si Sa Ket province Maitree Inthusut (ไมตรี อินทุสุต) revealed that safety measures have been put in place along with orders to move press members and the general public away from observation points and the toll blockade at the Khao Phra Wiharn National Park by 200 meters in light of recent clashes between Thai and Cambodian soldiers.
Public services and other facilities have been moved from the immediate Phrea Vihear area to the Si Sa Ket Forest Fire Center. Seven villages located along the Thai-Cambodian border, home to 5,000 citizens, are ready for immediate evacuation if the situation escalates.
The deputy governor stated however that farmers in the conflict area are still being allowed to tend to their crops along the border. Citizens are also being allowed to conduct business amidst volunteer security.
Provincial officials have joined soldiers and police in reviewing the situation.
