Senators protest against use of Emergency Decree to control situation
September 2nd, 2008 - 4:22 pm ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi ( Leave a comment )A group of senators issues an announcement to protest against the government’s enactment of the Emergency Decree to tackle the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) and calls for the resignation of the premier or at least the dissolution of parliament.
The senators, led by Rasana Tositrakul (รสนา โตสิตระกูล), say the enforcement of Emergency Decree cannot be justified by an violent incident between two groups of protestors and a movement by 43 state enterprise labor unions to pressure the government. They also say the clash between the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) and the Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship (DAAD) today (September, 2nd) had been premeditated by the government in order to enforce the law.
According to the senators, Emergency Decree will only aggravate the situation and the best way to end the political turmoil is either for the premier to resign or to dissolve the parliament as suggested by the parliamentary meeting on August 31st.
